In the hills surrounding the medieval hilltop of Narni in southern Umbria, Leonardo Bussoletti has spent the past 25 years passionately promoting the heritage of native grape varieties which have been cultivated in the region for a thousand years. Over approximately 7 hectares Leonardo has planted Ciliegiolo, Grechetto, Trebbiano Spoletino and several different clones of Malvasia – all farmed organically and all reflecting the unique soil and microclimates of the region. These grapes, long overshadowed by more popular varieties, are now celebrated for their elegance, personality, and ability to produce wines of exceptional quality. The single goal is to invigorate the distinctive heritage, flavour and style of each varietal. There is very low intervention in Leonardo’s wines – from his certified organic farming to his use of indigenous yeasts (employing the pied de cuve method) and limited filtration. Leonardo’s mission is clear: to create wines that express the essence of Umbrian terroir, while introducing a fresh, modern interpretation that captivates both the mind and heart. The state-of-the-art winery is located near the charming village of San Gemini designed with a strong commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
