2019 FREN Taurasi DOCG
2019 FREN Taurasi DOCG
2019 FREN Taurasi DOCG
Taurasi is sometimes referred to as “The Barolo of the South”, in Campania they would rather refer to Barolo as the “Taurasi of the north”. Taurasi DOCG is one of the most prestigious red wine denominations of Campania, known for its powerful and long-lived wines. These wines are prized for their complex structure, robust tannins and flavor profile that includes notes of ripe fruit, spice, chocolate and tobacco, often enriched by wood aging that adds additional vanilla and toast nuances.
The "Fren Taurasi DOCG", given Stefania's reputation for care and attention to detail, is a high-quality wine, which expresses the essence of the Taurasi territory yet demonstrates great restraint in her judicious use of oak (she only owns one 30 HL barrel!). FREN exhibits her commitment to creating wines that faithfully reflect the territory and the grape variety. She adopts viticultural practices and winemaking methods designed to enhance the unique characteristics of Aglianico, while maintaining a balance between aromatic intensity, complexity taste and structural elegance.
The wine has a deep ruby red color, tending towards garnet with aging. On the nose, it offers a wide range of aromas, from those of berries and ripe plum to more evolved notes of leather, wet earth and dark spices, the result of the interaction between the grape variety and its aging in oak barrels. In the mouth, Fren Taurasi is characterized by a powerful tannic structure, balanced by good acidity and a complexity of flavors that develop into a long and persistent finish.
