2020 Barolo “Treturne”
2020 Barolo “Treturne”
2020 Barolo “Treturne”
The Treturne is from estate vineyards in Pugnane (Castiglione Falletto) and Bussia (Monforte d’Alba), primarily south-west exposure for optimal ripeness. The grapes are fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks with a 40 day+ skin maceration, depending on the vintage. Aged in Austrian large Slavonian oak “botti” for at least 24 months, and in bottle for further 12 months. This is a classic interpretation of Barolo, that combines the features of two distinct sites. The Tretune is made from a selection of two older vineyards across two communes: Castiglione Falletto, and Monforte d’Alba. The Barolo Treturne embodies both communes, boasting the perfumed elegance of Castiglione’s sandy Pugnane vineyard, alongside the complex weight of Monforte from Fogliati’s 80-year-old Bussia vineyard.
The nose is fresh and vibrant, tightly toned, and filled with fragrances of balsamic, chalky raspberry with a hint of old-vine sweetness. The palate is rich in minty berry fruit, long raspberry and cherry fruit with coating fine tannins kicking in on the finish along with a noteworthy sandy-soil softness. The finish is lovely and long with red berry textures, mineral and musk rose.
